Local football administrators will gather at the Centenary Hall, Ta' Qali this morning for the Malta FA annual general meeting.
Commencing at 9.30 a.m., the association's AGM for 2005 is unlikely to match the publicity generated by its 2004 precursor which featured a close election for the MFA presidency between Dr Joe Mifsud and Joe Caruana Curran, the former president of Premier League club Valletta.
Two items that will surely command the close attention of the council members and club delegates attending today's meeting concern the reading and approval of the MFA's administrative and financial reports.
The election of the ordinary members of the Executive Committee for season 2005-2006 is also on the agenda but a conspicuous dearth of new candidates has removed the need to hold a ballot in all bar one category.
Charles Calleja, Raymond Micallef and Alfred Scerri are the only three candidates facing an election today as they vie to fill one of two vacancies offered to council members in representation of member clubs in general.
In the other divisions, the number of nominees equals the number of seats on offer.
These are:
Premier Division (two vacancies) - Joseph Gauci, Paul Spiteri. First Division (two vacancies) - Ivan Calamatta, Charles J. Scerri. Second Division (one vacancy) - Salvu Vella. Third Division (one vacancy) - Joseph Farrugia. Council members in representation of Member Clubs in general (two vacancies) - Charles Calleja, Raymond Micallef, Alfred Scerri. Council members in representation of the Youth FA (one vacancy) - Joe Micallef. Council members in representation of the other member associations (two vacancies) - Lawrence Callus, Joseph M. Cassar Naudi.
No additions and/or alterations to the Malta FA statute have been proposed.
