The International FISEC Committee met earlier this week to discuss various matters of importance regarding the student games which have grown significantly in popularity over the past few years.
Among the topics on the agenda was Louis Borg's proposal to hold a general assembly in Malta this year. It was agreed that this meeting will be held between December 1 and 3.
After analysing a series of recommendations, the international committee is now likely to make changes in its statute.
It was also confirmed that the 2006 Games will be in Hungary.
Borg is the vice-president of FISEC International and Gianfranco Selvaggi is general secretary.
This year a FISEC International delegation will attend a conference at the Vatican City, in Rome, entitled 'The Church and Sport'.
Medals in athletics
The penultimate day of the 2005 FISEC Games yielded satisfactory results in track and field.
Chris Magro was third in the shot putt with a 12.04-metre throw and Alistair Bezzina was the bronze medal winner in the 3,000m race. He finished in 9:25.82.
Lara Scerri, gold medal winner on Tuesday in the 300m race, was second in 200m yesterday. Her time was 26.86 seconds. Scerri also won a bronze medal in the 100m dash.
There were two upsets, however, for Maltese teams in futsal and handball.
In five-a-side football, the team went down 4-1 to Portugal and lost the chance to reach the final.
Now, they have to settle for third or fourth place in one last match today, the last day of the games.
The consolation goal against the Portuguese was scored by Warren Chircop.
The handball team rounded up their commitments in Madrid with a 31-20 defeat to Spain 'B'. The best scorer for the Maltese was Chris Magro with five goals.
In tennis, Matthew Asciak today figures in a play-off for third and fourth place after losing a tight match to Spain's Carrascosa 6-4 2-6 6-7. In the girls' singles, Steffi Sullivan also lost her decisive match in three sets - 6-2 4-6 6-7.
Asciak and Sullivan then made another step towards a podium finish in Mixed Doubles when beating Dutch pair La Gro and Beuter 9-3.
