What were the main environmental concerns expressed by the Maltese respondents in the Eurobarometer survey?
Only one per cent of the Maltese population who responded to the Eurobarometer survey think first about "protecting Nature" when they talk about the environment; they are most worried about "air pollution"; they trust international NGOs followed by the EU about environmental issues; and 89 per cent agree that policy-makers should consider the environment to be just as important as economic and social policies.
These results are published in The Attitudes Of European Citizens Towards The Environment in a special eurobarometer report published in April, 2005 by DG Environment.
How did Maltese respondents react to other topics related to the environment?
While approximately one in five Maltese are most worried about pollution when they talk about the environment, only marginally less express the same concern about the state in which we shall leave the environment for posterity.
About 13 per cent are concerned about the individual responsibility towards protecting the environment and to the quality of life.
Interestingly eight per cent of respondents associated the environment with earthquakes, floods and natural disasters and one person in 10 associates the environment with greener and pleasanter landscapes.
