An avalanche in the Mont Blanc mountain range killed one Briton yesterday and injured three others, police said.

The victims were part of a group of six British soldiers apparently on a private climbing trip, police said. Two of them escaped the avalanche unhurt.

Emergency services were searching for victims with dogs and helicopters after the avalanche near the Mont Blanc du Tacul summit in the afternoon.
