The declaration by Christopher Ciantar, of WasteServ Malta Ltd, in his letter of July 18, was indeed a surprise and a revelation. Dr Ciantar solemnly stated that "WasteServ is willing to implement the change which is needed in waste management and, moreover we feel that only by involving the residents directly can this change be achieved".
It is on record that neither WasteServ nor SRL, who were responsible for the environment impact statement, consulted or involved in any manner any of the Zejtun residents, some of whom live as close as 300 metres from the proposed demolition of the existing plant and the construction of:
¤ a materials recycling facility,
¤ a mechanical treatment plant,
¤ a digestion plant
¤ and a composting plant at the Sant' Antnin waste station.
Indeed, WasteServ has become synonymous with platitudinous statements and the least said the better.
