A re-enactment of how the Knights of St John used to fire their cannon will be among the highlights of this year's pyro-musical show taking place at Vittoriosa Wharf on the eve of the feast of St Lawrence.
The show forms part of the programme of activities drawn up by the St Lawrence External Festivities Committee to mark the feast of the patron saint of Vittoriosa which falls on August 10.
The programme kicks off this coming Sunday with a traditional bell ringing ceremony involving all the churches in the Vittoriosa parish. This will be accompanied by daylight fireworks and St Lawrence Band will perform band marches along the streets of the town.
Church services will take place daily between August 1 and 8, leading to the feast day.
De Rohan Band of Zebbug will play marches on August 6 when an audio-visual show about the feast will be presented at about 10 p.m. in St John Tower Street. The show will include the letting off of fireworks synchronised to music.
St Lawrence Band will present its annual concert on August 7 and the event will be concluded with a fireworks display synchronised to excerpts from the opera Aida.
There will be more band marches and fireworks displays on August 8 and 9.
The pyro-musical show, organised by the 10th August Pyrotechnic Group, starts at 9.45 p.m. on the eve of the feast.
High Mass at the Conventual Collegiate church of St Lawrence will be said at 9.30 a.m. on the feast day when the procession of the patron saint leaves the church at 7.15 p.m.
Band marches will also be held on the day after the feast.
Attractions found in Vittoriosa, including the Inquisitor's Palace and the Maritime Museum, will remain open to the public till late during the feast days.
A boat service will be provided from Senglea.
