THE Institute of Health and Safety is organising another Occupational Health and Safety course, starting on August 8, between 1.30 and 5.30 p.m., at its premises at Martin Court, University Street, Msida.

The course objective is to help participants develop an understanding of factors which contribute to health and safety issues and their management in the occupational environment.

The four-hour course, which will be held in one session, will cover an overview of health and safety; the role of the Occupational Health and Safety Authority; current law; health and safety accidents - cost and benefits; accidents investigation and reporting; and health hazards - safe or healthy workplace?

Anthony Xuereb, court expert for cases of health and safety, will deliver the course.

The fee, which is Lm40, excluding VAT per participant, includes instruction notes, refreshments and certification.

A course on work equipment and safety guards by the Institute of Health and Safety will be held on Wednesday and Friday between 2.15 and 5.15 p.m., at the institute's premises in Msida.

The purpose of this course is to ensure that health and safety is a consideration over a lifetime of the plant, beginning with design and manufacture through to dismantling and disposal. Training is vital before using or approaching a machine.

Supervisors, health and safety practitioners, safety officers, workshop instructors, machinists and safety committee members can attend.

The fee for the course, which covers chemical substances; identification of dangerous substances; threshold level values; handling and storage; and personal protective equipment, is Lm35.40.

The course will also be delivered by Mr Xuereb.

For more information on both courses, contact Marylouise Said on 2131-1966 or e-mail info@ihs.com.mt
