Great Dane released of its misery

The Abandoned Animals Association has released of its misery an 18-month Great Dane bitch that was being kept in a two-metre square chicken pen on the roof of a residence in Msida.

Alfred Fenech who runs the association said he forked out Lm30 from the association's funds and paid the owner for the dog.

Mr Fenech said he went to the residence indicated to him by a caller who reported the state in which the Great Dane was being kept.

Mr Fenech approached the owner who accepted the money for the bitch saying he did not have enough time to care for the dog. Mr Fenech was also given a chihuahua, which had lost an eye.

The AAA is trying to home the bitch, which is healthy and very friendly. Mr Fenech can be contacted on 9946 4888 or on 7929 7930.

The AAA will be at the Independence Gardens, in Sliema between tomorrow and Sunday to continue collecting people's signatures to petition the government to open a hospital for animals.
