Josef Camilleri will be playing in Italy's Serie C next season after joining a club from Syracuse following his fine performances earlier this month in the Gran Premio di Palermo tournament.
Camilleri, who played for Zabbar SC last season, made it to the semi-finals but was eliminated from the last four stage by home player Claudio Dogoli 2-0. The latter then lost the final to Morgan Croce 3-2.
Camilleri started with a defeat in the group stage but made up for that initial upset by chalking up three successive victories.
Two other Maltese players also took part in the Gran Premio di Palermo which is not listed among the FISTF ranking tournaments.
These were Jean Carl Tabone and Ilia Zammit Marmara. Both lost their matches in the round of Last 16.
Next season, Tabone will also play in Sicily after joining up with Palermo, Zammit Marmara's current club who are in Serie B.
