Barcelona goalkeeper Victor Valdes has agreed to extend his contract with the Spanish champions until 2010, the Primera Liga club said.
The 23-year-old, who was under contract to the Catalans until 2008, broke into the first team at the expense of Argentine international Roberto Bonano three seasons ago and has become the first-choice keeper at the club.
He has been instrumental in helping the club improve its defensive record in recent seasons and was awarded the unofficial "Zamora" trophy given to the goalkeeper for conceding the lowest average number of goals last season.
"This is another step on the way to ensuring the continuity of the backbone of the first team," said Barcelona sporting director Txiki Begiristain.
Cameroon striker Samuel Eto'o and Portugal midfielder Deco also recently agreed to extend their contracts with the club until 2010.
