Arteta: Spanish midfielder Mikel Arteta has signed a five-year deal with Everton, making permanent a loan deal from Real Sociedad. Sociedad said Everton would pay 2.9 million euros for the former under-21 international.

Maresca: Sevilla have signed Italian midfielder Enzo Maresca on a four-year deal from Juventus, the Primera Liga club said yesterday. Juventus said Sevilla had paid e2.5 million for the 25-year-old, who played on loan at Fiorentina last season and is the third new recruit to join the club in the close season.

Tomasson: VfB Stuttgart have signed Denmark striker Jon Dahl Tomasson on a four-year contract from Milan, the Bundesliga side said yesterday. Stuttgart, who last month sold Germany striker Kevin Kuranyi to Schalke 04 for a reported seven million euros, did not disclose a fee for 28-year-old Tomasson. "Jon Dahl Tomasson is a striker with a lot of international experience and someone who proved in Italy what an excellent player he is," said Stuttgart's new coach Giavanni Trapattoni.

Borgetti: Mexico's joint all-time record goalscorer Jared Borgetti is on the point of signing for Bolton Wanderers, his present club Pachuca said. The player known as the Desert Fox, who scored his 35th goal for Mexico in last week's 4-0 win over Guatemala at the CONCACAF Gold Cup in the United States, will become the first Mexican player to join an English club if the move goes through.

Aloisi: Australia striker John Aloisi is joining newly-promoted Alaves and had his first training session with the Primera Liga team yesterday. The 29-year-old, available on a free transfer from Osasuna, was close to signing a three-year deal at Panathinaikos earlier this month but problems with a knee injury prompted the Greek side to offer him a shorter contract, which he turned down.

Friendlies: Clyde vs Man. United 1-5; Tottenham vs B. Juniors 2-2.
