Alternattiva Demokratika chairman Harry Vassallo accompanied by a number of party officials yesterday visited commercial outlets in Marsascala and met residents during a walkabout.

The aim of the activity was to discuss issues cencerning the locality.

Dr Vassallo said that all the people he met expressed concern about the siting of the waste recycling plant at Sant'Antnin.

"While being in favour of recycling, AD cannot fail to note the blatant shortcomings of the site selection process adopted in this case and reaffirms its commitment to support Marsascala residents in their reasonable demand to be fully and fairly consulted in decision making which will affect the quality of life in the locality for years to come," he said.

Dr Vassallo also met members of the Movement for the Conservation of the Maghluq Valley who presented him with a copy of their submissions to MEPA with regard to the South Malta Local Plan.

"AD's concerns will be given due weight in AD's submissions to MEPA with regard to the South Malta Local Plan which will be made before the final date for submissions on July 31," Dr Vassallo said.

"The various interests of fishermen, tourism sector operators and residents must be safeguarded in order to support the efforts made so far to develop the locality while conserving its unique character," he explained. No development should be allowed to threaten the quality of life in Marsascala, Dr Vassallo insisted.
