New AIB chairman

The Maltese Association of Insurance Brokers (AIB), has elected John Tortell, ACII, ICFA, of Jatco Insurance Brokers Ltd, as its new chairman.

During its 2005 general meeting, the association's council also elected Lawrence Pavia, managing director of Island Insurance Brokers Ltd, as vice-chairman, and Joseph Cutajar, managing director of Aon Malta Ltd, as hon. secretary. John Mifsud, manager at Melita Insurance Brokers Ltd, has been re-elected the association's treasurer.

The AIB is open to members licensed by Malta Financial Services Authority to transact insurance broking business. Its membership today includes 12 of Malta's leading insurance broking firms.

All members abide by a code of ethics and professional conduct to help their clients carefully assess their insurance needs, advise them on the best cover and guide them through the claim process.

The association is also active internationally through its full memberships to: BIPAR, the European Federation of Insurance Intermediaries that reunites professional brokers from all over Europe and the Mediterranean area, which is recognised as the representative federation of European insurance intermediaries by the European and international institutions; POI, Partners of Insurance Intermediaries, an initiative of the national associations of insurance intermediaries in Europe; and the Mediterranean Federation of Insurance Intermediaries.
