Din l-Art Helwa, in association with the Institute of Maltese Journalists, has launched an Award for Cultural Heritage Journalism through the sponsorship of the Fondazzjoni Tumas Fenech ghall-Edukazzjoni fil-Gurnalizmu.
The award, launched on the occasion of DLH's 40th anniversary, will be presented annually for any published article, in English or Maltese, which makes an outstanding and significant contribution to the better appreciation and understanding of the built cultural heritage.
The journalistic work may refer to a single building, a complex of buildings or a historic urban environment or townscape. Cultural heritage covers all built heritage of architectural, historical or archaeological importance relating to the Maltese islands.
The award is open to all journalists and contributors in Malta and Gozo. To be eligible for inclusion the work must have been published in Malta within the 12 month period up to July 31.
The criteria of judging will be based on the quality of the work published, the clarity of text and communication of the spirit of the issues to raise or increase public awareness.
Submissions for consideration for an award must be received at the Din l-Art Helwa office, 133 Melita Street, Valletta by July 31. All entries should be clearly marked "The Din l-Art Helwa Award for Cultural Heritage Journalism" on the envelope. Application forms can be picked up from the office.
Submissions may be made by either an individual in his own name or by an organisation on behalf of an individual.
In the latter case consent is to be obtained by signature on the application form. Up to three submissions may be made by each applicant.
The prize will consist of a silver medal together with Lm200 and a certificate.
