Leaders in training

Establishing direction, aligning people and motivating the staff are the foundations of effective leadership, Michael Jarrett, an associate of the London Business School, told Bank of Valletta executives.

"Leadership, as opposed to management, produces change, often to a dramatic degree and has the potential to help make a firm more competitive," he added.

Prof. Jarrett, who was addressing a two-day leadership programme organised by the bank's Training and Consultancy Unit, said a feasible, focused and flexible approach created better performance through customer and productivity-orientated behaviour, more and better leadership and more effective management.
