Japan's Olympic marathon champion Mizuki Noguchi (right) will run in the Berlin Marathon in September.

The 26-year-old will be entering her first competitive race since winning the women's marathon at last year's Athens Olympics when she lines up in Berlin on September 25.

"My objective will be to break the Japanese record," Noguchi said before leaving Japan for high-altitude training in Switzerland.

"I will be looking to put all my strength into running an aggressive race."

Japanese runners have enjoyed considerable success in Berlin, with former Olympic champion Naoko Takahashi winning in 2001 and Yoko Shibui victorious last year.
