Reality of miscarriage

Broaching the subject of miscarriage is like treading on eggshells. The figures are high - an average of 15 to 20 per cent of pregnancies end in a miscarriage - and yet the topic remains taboo. At the same time, because miscarriage is common and many women go on to have healthy babies, it is often treated with almost nonchalance.

But the reality of the matter is that these women suffer in silence, grieving a baby they never got to hug, while wondering what their future holds.

A number of Pink's female readers, who have been through this trauma, have asked the editors to look into it, yearning to hear about the experiences of others.

So this month's ninth edition of the magazine, which is out with The Times tomorrow, attempts to create a better understanding of the matter by relating a woman's ordeal in dealing with her grief and fears. This month, Pink also takes its readers on a journey to discover what makes the sultry popular Italian actress Bianca Guaccero tick. Its cover girl has a rags-to-riches story every young village girl dreams of.

Another journey that the magazine undertakes is to the Maldives, where sun, sea and sport reign supreme, in its newcomer section TravelOgue.

As usual, Pink also includes a mixture of subjects from fashion to health, beauty and fitness, recipes, light-hearted vox pops, horoscopes and humour.

Pink is edited by journalists Fiona Galea Debono and Ariadne Massa. Published by Allied Newspapers Ltd, it is a MediaMaker production, which is designed by Helen Cassar Torreggiani and Joseph Schembri.
