The Malta Chamber for Small and Medium Enterprises - GRTU is satisfied that the Finance Minister has withdrawn that part of a Bill through which the government would have imposed a special privilege above that of banks and other special privileges when tax is not paid within a prescribed time limit.
The government was still moving ahead with legislation that obliged the tax authorities to register a privilege with advantages due to an authority. However, now the privilege did not supersede those who were given priority under the law, the GRTU said.
The GRTU commented on the fact that the Bill was never discussed with them before being tabled in Parliament.
The GRTU's clear message was: "Let us work, don't distract us. Facilitate our work and the economy will grow."
