Obituary

AGIUS. On July 10, at St Luke's Hospital, ANTOINETTE née Vella of Sliema, widow of John, passed away peacefully comforted by the rites of Holy Church. She leaves to mourn her loss her children George and his wife Joyce residing in Canada, Marthese and her husband Chris Gemmell, Elizabeth and her fiancée Joe Marik, Josette and her husband John Sammut, Susan and her husband Mario Mintoff, Nadia and her husband Joseph Formosa, and Pierre, her grandchildren Suzanne and husband Francis Callanan, Louise, Ian, Mark, Erika, Karl, Stephen, Kurt, Patricia, Denise, Matthew, and grand niece Emilia, her sister Emma Vella, relatives and friends - R.I.P.
The funeral leaves St Luke's Hospital tomorrow at 9 a.m. for Sacro Cuor parish church in Sliema, where Mass praesente cadavere will be said at 9.30 a.m. followed by interment at San Leone cemetery, Zurrieq. No flowers by request but donations to the Ursuline Sisters in Sliema will be appreciated. Kindly remember her in your prayers.

COLLAR. Doris (Dee) née Scicluna. On July 10, aged 89, comforted by the rites of Holy Church. She was the last surviving daughter of Sir Hannibal Scicluna. She leaves to mourn her loss her nephews and nieces and many friends around the world. - R.I.P.
The funeral will be held today. Mass praesente cadavere will be said at the Santa Maria Addolorata chapel at 3 p.m. followed by interment.

PANTALLERESCO. On July 9, May, aged 64, passed peacefully away comforted by the rites of Holy Church. Much loved and mourned by her sisters Josephine and her husband Cecil Azzopardi, and Sr Eugenia of the Ursuline Sisters, her niece Mariella and her husband Raymond von Brockdorff, her nephew Ivan Azzopardi, her grand nieces Lisa and Lara, her grand nephews Mark and Julian, numerous relatives and friends. - R.I.P.
The funeral leaves St Luke's Hospital tomorrow at 8.25 a.m. for St Gregory's church in Sliema, where Mass praesente cadavere will be said at 8.45 a.m., followed by interment at Santa Maria Addolorata Cemetery. The family would like to thank all her relatives and friends who assisted her during her illness.

VASSALLO. In treasured memory of our parents Joseph and Carmela née Portanier, and our brother Alfred, on the anniversary of their death, 37, 28 and four years ago respectively. A prayer is solicited. Doris, Mary, Anthony, John and Carmen.

ZAMMIT. In loving memory of my dear sister Dolores Mary who passed away in Sydney three years ago. Always in our thoughts. Her elder brother Joseph Michael and his wife, and nieces Francesca and Sylvia. May the Lord grant her eternal rest.

Barred Galaxies

The Institute for Astronomy and Astrophysics (IAA) has invited professional astronomer Victor Debattista to give a public talk titled Barred Galaxies at St James Cavalier in Valletta on Friday at 6 p.m.

Dr Debattista is a Brooks Prize Fellow at the University of Washington (Seattle), US.

The IAA is in the process of refurbishing an old Merz brass refracting telescope owned by the university's department of physics. The telescope was manufactured in Munich, Germany by Jakob Merz about 150 years ago and will be on display during the talk.

Those interested in astronomy are invited to attend free of charge.

Toy poodle missing

A white toy poodle called Beauty went missing from St Leonard Square, Mosta, on Friday. Its owner, Monica Saliba, has appealed to anyone who may have information on her pet to contact her on 2143 8922 or 9945 6208. Ms Saliba said the poodle, which is on medical treatment, can be identified from a small black spot on its backside.

Gozo SPCA Flag Week

Gozo SPCA will be holding its annual Flag Week this week from today. The society is appealing to the public to support its work for animal welfare on Gozo by giving generously to the official collectors, who will be found throughout the island and on the Gozo Channel Company ferries.

All the money collected is used to care for the animals at the Gozo SPCA Stray Animal and Rehoming Centre in Victoria and for the ongoing neutering programme.
