Vieira: Juventus have played down reports that they are involved in talks to sign Arsenal captain Patrick Vieira. Reports said Juve are mulling over a new £12m offer plus players to entice Arsenal to sell the 29-year-old but general manager Luciano Moggi has stated no talks have ever taken place. "There have never been any negotiations over Vieira," Moggi told L'Equipe.

Heinze: Argentina defender Gabriel Heinze has been voted Man. United's Player of the Year by fans. Heinze, who took a third of the votes by 17,000 fans, is the first non-European player to win the trophy named after the late United manager Matt Busby. He beat strikers Wayne Rooney and Cristiano Ronaldo.

The Mallorcan will face another 19-year-old, Tomas Berdych, who beat Czech compatriot Jiri Vanek 7-5 6-1.
