European champions Liverpool are about to sign Valencia's Mali midfielder Mohamed Lamine Sissoko and hope to land Real Madrid's Luis Figo.
Sissoko, a 20-year-old Mali international who was born in France and joined Valencia from Ligue 1 club Auxerre in 2003, only needs to pass a medical before completing his move to Anfield.
"He's got high energy, always working and he's not bad with the ball. I think he can give us balance in midfield," Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez told Sky Sports News after his team's 4-3 friendly win over fourth division Wrexham.
As for Liverpool's bid to sign Portuguese midfielder Figo, a former World and European Player of the Year, Benitez said: "At the moment all we can do is wait. We have some possibilities and Figo is one of them."
Wrexham's Racecourse Ground will be hosting Liverpool's Champions League first qualifying round, second leg game against Total Network Solutions on July 19.
