Divers may be pleasantly surprised the next time they visit the seabed at Wied Iz-Zurrieq and see a replica of an old diver's helmet lying there.
The helmet is a commemorative structure that was submerged by Atlam Sub Aqua Club to mark its 50th anniversary.
The club said the structure would increase the underwater attractions in the area and help drivers find their way to the Um El Farud, a Libyan tanker that was sunk after being damaged in an explosion at the Malta Drydocks.
The new underwater attraction, which was constructed by club members, is found between the cave and the wreck at a bearing of 240 degrees.
All materials used are environment friendly, the club noted.
