Education Minister Louis Galea yesterday inaugurated a new library and resource centre at the Malta College of Arts, Science and Technology (MCAST).
The resources and tools will enable students to complement their learning and develop the skills of independent life-long learning.
The state of the art library and resource centre is part of a Lm1.5 million investment programme in MCAST's infrastructure.
So far, the college has invested over Lm526,000 and a further Lm110,000 will be obtained through the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).
The college will be benefiting from Lm1 million from the ERDF which will go towards the building of a new Institute of Community Care, a childcare centre, the modernisation of the Xewkija annex in Gozo and equipment for the motor vehicles laboratory.
Apart from library resources, the block includes computer labs with over 110 computers with internet access as well as study areas with space for over 200 students at any one time and areas for study groups and educational support.
The centre provides an array of resources on various media as well as copying and printing facilities. Spaces have also been reserved for exhibitions.
The library and resource centre also houses the MCAST basic skills unit providing literacy and numeracy support to students.
