I do not agree with Peter Xuereb (Prejudicial Pietà Parking, June 28). In my opinion the Pietà council executive secretary answered all Mr Xuereb's questions by giving facts and figures to explain the council's decision to introduce a time-controlled parking scheme within the locality.

I am grateful to our hard-working mayor and to his council for making my life easier. At least today I do not have to compete with half the population of Malta that own a car to find a parking space close to my home. I only compete with my neighbours, which is fair.

In my opinion Mr Xuereb is envious because his council, the St Julians local council, tried to introduce a half-baked time-controlled parking scheme as an election gimmick and failed miserably.

Time-controlled parking is a fact of life. My office is close to the Ferries in Sliema, however I cannot park there because parking is limited to one hour, except for residents.

I don't complain because coming from Pietà I can understand residents' frustration when they have to park three or four blocks away from their homes and walk half a mile carrying their shopping. Why should residents in high traffic density areas not be given preference over non-residents to park close to their homes?
