President Eddie Fenech Adami last month officially opened the new extension at Dar il-Kaptan, the Respite Home for Persons with Disability, at Mtarfa.

The extension, consisting of an extra two bedrooms, a TV lounge, an enlarged Activities Room, and enlargement of the kitchen area, was funded by Rotary Club Malta, which adopted the project as their Rotary Centenary Year contribution.

Dar il-Kaptan has over the years benefited considerably from the support given to it by Rotary Club Malta. In 1991 Rotary Club Malta raised the funds to enable the Foundation for Respite Care to buy the Mtarfa property known as Dar il-Kaptan.

Other support given by Rotary includes the purchase of playground equipment, air-conditioning the whole of the premises, and significant assistance in the purchase of a minibus.

The governor of the Rotary International District of Sicily and Malta, Dott. Ferdinando Testoni Blasco, came over specially from Sicily for the opening and he spoke about the relationship between Rotary and Dar il-Kaptan.

Among the speakers were two users of the services of Dar il-Kaptan, who described the benefits they receive from the respite offered.

The President, who unveiled a commemorative plaque, was be accompanied by Mrs Fenech Adami.

Rotary International was founded in 1905 by Paul Harris in the United States. There are now over 1.2 million members in clubs around the world.
