What are the proposals for Zabbar?

Zabbar is one of the largest localities in the plan area. Although a residential and commercial area the locality is also characterised by industrial operations. Traffic is one of the main issues and a new route to by pass this locality when going towards Marsascala is being proposed. Policies also encourage additional recreational spaces and the relocation of the open-air market. The plan also identifies a site at St Peter's should there be an eventual relocation of the bus terminus from the current site.

The plan covers Mediatrix Square (SMZA 01); a recreational area and potential site for the bus terminus (SMZA 02); the rezoning of land at Sta Domenika (SMZA 03); the re-use of existing schools for social and community facilities (SMZA 04); the relocation of the outdoor market (SMZA 05);

The rehabilitation of Fort St Leonard (SMZA 06); a public open space at Tal-Hofra, St Nicholas Square (SMZA 07); mixed development at Ta' Dun Lanza (SMZA 08); rezoning of land at Ta' Dun Lanza (SMZA 09); development guidelines for land adjacent to Sqaq Berqi (SMZA 10); and rezoning of Triq ix-Xghajra (SMZA 11).
