Fort St Angelo will provide an exclusive setting for a summer evening of auctioned art and exhibition, in aid of a charitable cause.
The art exhibition and auction will be held in St Anne's chapel and a reception will be held in the chapel surroundings, within the fortified walls of the historic location.
Various artists have generously contributed to the philanthropic initiative by offering their artwork at well below market price, making it also the perfect opportunity for a good investment.
Participating will be a number of established and emerging artists including Salvatore Montanucci, Fabio Borg, Matthew Kassar, William Azzopardi, Mario Arcidiacono, John Busuttil Leaver, Jason Lu, C.S. Lawrence, Winston Hassall, Rupert Cefai, Mark Sagona, Maria Rosella Dalmas, Therese Storace and Marthese Vella.
The artwork on auction is inspired by the history of the Knights of Malta and important places and events which characterised the period during which the islands were governed by the Order. The works of art may be viewed online at http://www.artissa.com
A public viewing session will be held on July 2 throughout the day with the main event being held on July 9 at 8 p.m. The auction will remain open until July 14 and bidding can also take place online at http://auctions.artissa.com
The fund-raising event is a joint effort by Lions Club Valletta and the Friends of St Luke's Hospital Foundation.
Both organisations have been instrumental in donating equipment in aid of reducing and preventing blindness and in assisting eyesight projects to Third World countries.
The foundation has also donated funds for the purchase of equipment for the Renal Unit as well as the refurbishment of the hospital chapel.
Tickets for the event can be purchased for Lm12 per person by sending an e-mail to fslhf@artissa.com with the details contained in the form available for download at http://www.artissa.com, by faxing the form on 2189 4955 or mailing the printed form.
Payment for the tickets is to be sent by July 5 to Friends of St Luke's Foundation c/o 99, Main Street, Zejtun ZTN 012. Cheques are to be made payable to Friends of St Luke's Hospital Foundation (FSLHF).
