Investment in property is still considered to be safe and lucrative. This is leading to higher local property prices, making housing too expensive for young couples.

It is suggested that completely vacant property, not even used as a summer residence, be taxed in order to encourage its release onto the market.

Besides helping to slightly abate price increases, the release of such vacant property will also help address environmental problems of further construction sprawling and decaying vacant buildings.

Furthermore the rent laws need to be revamped urgently as it is well known that they are impeding these vacant properties from being put on the market.
