The Physically Handicapped Rehabilitation Fund (PHRF) organised the annual sports day for its members at its centre in Corradino.

Weekly training sessions are offered at the PHRF centre where specialised sports instructors, led by Michael Pace, give tuition in various sports disciplines.

Special training, activities and competitions are also organised on a regular basis.

The PHRF centre also boasts a number of sports facilities such as a well-equipped gym, a table tennis and billiard room.

The sports day kicked off during the week with the slalom and weightlifting competitions for men and women. Other competitions in shot, javelin and discus formed part of the sports day's programme during the morning.

In the afternoon, special wheelchairs races were staged before a demonstration of a basketball game on wheelchairs brought the sports day activities to a fitting close.

Prior to the presentation of trophies, Georgia Tabone, president of the PHRF, thanked all those present for taking part in the event.

She stated that the council of the PHRF is indebted to those who offer their voluntary contribution to the organisation as well as the various sponsors who support it.

"Without this assistance, it will be more difficult for the PHRF to continue doing its utmost for the rehabilitation of disabled people," Mrs Tabone said.

Euchar Camilleri, director at the Malta Sports Council and representing Louis Galea, the Minister for Education, Youth and Employment and Stefan Zahra, vice-mayor of the Paola Local Council, distributed the trophies.
