Air Malta is in the final process of formalising its senior management team with the appointment of two further chief officers, the company said yesterday.

The newly appointed chief officers are Lawrence Gatt, who has been appointed chief officer flight operations and engineering, and Joseph P. Farrugia, who has been appointed chief officer ground operations. Both appointees will be reporting directly to Air Malta's chief operating officer, Joe Cappello.

Captain Gatt will be responsible for engineering services, operations support and flight operations.

Dr Farrugia will take on the responsibility of ground handling services as well as passenger and cargo services.

The two new chief officers will join six other chief officers, who together with the chief operating officer, will be working under the direction of the chief executive officer.

Commenting on the appointments, Air Malta's chairman, Lawrence Zammit, said: "The lengthy process we started some 18 months ago has finally been concluded. We are now in a position to provide strategic direction and leadership at divisional level. The two new chief officers will be taking ownership of their responsibilities as of Monday morning."

The selection and appointment process for appointments to the second management tier is expected to be concluded in the coming few days, following which the rest of the organisation will be defined, Air Malta said.
