A man was yesterday jailed for two years and fined Lm200 when he admitted to breaking into a car and to drug possession.

Magistrate Abigail Lofaro heard Ronnie Muscat plead guilty to the possession of heroin, stealing a car stereo from Catherine Balzan's vehicle, damaging it and relapsing in January 2002.

On handing down judgment the magistrate noted that Mr Muscat had cooperated with the police and that Ms Balzan had been paid for the damage caused.

However, the magistrate noted that although the courts had given Mr Muscat several chances to change his ways he continued leading a criminal life. Moreover, he did not show a will to attend a rehabilitation programme. For this reason, the magistrate said, a jail term was appropriate.

Police Inspector Paul Camilleri prosecuted.
