Message of congratulation

The Association of Surgeons of Malta has written to congratulate the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh on their Quincentenary.

President Gordon Caruana-Dingli said that over the last 500 years the college has promoted the highest standards of surgical practice through education, training and assessment. Links between Malta and the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh stretched back to 1834 when Vincent Portelli was the first Maltese physician to qualify in the United Kingdom and was awarded the licentiate of the college.

Since then a large number of Maltese surgeons have trained in Edinburgh, some of whom being rewarded by the President's Gold Medal.
