The House European and foreign affairs committee has proposed that Malta and Tunisia set up a task force dealing with issues of common interest.

The proposal was made during a visit to Tunisia by a delegation headed by committee chairman Nationalist MP Jason Azzopardi and members Clyde Puli (PN), Joseph Cuschieri (MLP) and Silvio Parnis (MLP).

They suggested that the task force would deal with issues such as information technology, telecommunications and tourism and the cruise liner industry.

The Tunisian Secretary of State at the Foreign Ministry, Hatem Ben Salem, welcomed the suggestion, a committee spokesman said.

The Maltese delegation also met Fouad Mebazaa, president of the Tunisian House of Representatives, and Tunisian parliamentary and government officials.
