The Bank of Valletta football team emerged winners from the ninth Mastercard International Tournament played recently in Crete.

The competition consisted of a league format contested by teams from Italy, Belgium, Greece, Holland and two Maltese teams from BoV and HSBC.

The BoV team started their campaign with a 1-1 draw against the Italians and a big 8-1 win over the Belgian team. BoV then had the better of HSBC 1-0 before beating a Dutch bank's selection 2-1.

On the last day of the tournament, BoV scored four times without reply against the Greeks to qualify for the final.

During the final, BoV again beat the Italians 2-0.

BoV's Stephen Mizzi was named the best goalkeeper and top-scorer Ryan Darmanin was best player.
