I was among some 80 residents of Mqabba who had a pleasant experience in Gozo recently when we spent a day there, organised by our local council.

The organisation was excellent, everything was perfect, the punctuality was amazing - something that is rarely achieved when dealing with 80 people. What made my Gozo visit extraordinary were the values that I lived during this day.

Mqabba council, like all councils in Malta and Gozo, is made up of people of different political opinions and I thought that the councillors only worked to reach their party's objectives.

But during this day it wasn't like this at all! I saw all of them working really hard together, taking care of each person, seeing that everyone was satisfied, being united between them and without expecting anything back. This was what I always dreamt local councils should be and my dream became a reality when I lived this day close to them.

I would like to thank our mayor, Nicholas Briffa, who made this day a memorable one, and councillors Noel Galea, a great example of maturity, Benny Casha for keeping us smiling, George Busuttil and Anthony Bonello (secretary) for their continuous collaboration and the other councillors and helpers. They taught everyone rich values and made us feel proud of our local council and prouder still to be Mqabbin!
