The UK Chartered Insurance Institute (CII) has granted the Malta International Training Centre (MITC) 115 ACII credits for a new Advanced Diploma that MITC is launching in October.
The Advanced Diploma is ideal for students who have either completed MITC's Applied Insurance Studies Diploma, or the CII's Diploma in Insurance, or who are progressing towards the ACII qualification.
Divided into two parts - Core Management Module and the Specialist Modules - students are required to sit for the Core Management Module and three specialist modules (from a menu of seven) being Risk Management, Principles & Practice of Reinsurance, Insurance Broking, Insurance Regulation, Sales & Marketing in Insurance, Personal Insurance and Claims Management.
Additionally, each specialist module, when combined to the CII's core module at foundation level, provides a stand-alone certificate programme attracting the Cert. CII title. The Advanced Diploma programme will be offered on an evening basis as from October. A full-time option will also be available from summer 2006.
All examinations, other than P17 - Operational Management are set and corrected by MITC subject to CII moderation. In respect of the Operational Management Module only, MITC provides the tuition and students are expected to sit for this subject directly with the CII.
The reason for this is to respect the UK Qualifications and Curriculum Authority's recent ruling that at least one examination needs to be undertaken directly with a professional body to gain the Dip. CII professional title. All other examinations are taken directly with MITC and granted dispensation by the Chartered Insurance Institute in respect of their ACII qualification.
Upon completion of the Applied Insurance Studies Diploma and the Advanced Diploma, successful participants are entitled to 235 credits out of the 290 required for the ACII qualification. Two further subjects, one of which being 510 - Risk and Insurance - would need to be undertaken directly with the CII to complete ACII requirements.
Commenting on this achievement, Mr Portelli, MITC's CEO, said this not only further cemented the close relations between the MITC and the UK Chartered Insurance Institute but also increased MITC's menu of branded training programmes by an Advanced Diploma and seven certificate programmes.
It is anticipated that these programmes will be well received not only by Maltese students but also by MITC's client companies overseas. Since its establishment in 1981, MITC has received participants from or lectured in over 60 countries and, nowadays over 60 per cent of its training activity is conducted overseas.
