¤ T-Mobile have left sprinter Erik Zabel out of their team for next month's Tour de France. Team manager Olaf Ludwig told T-Mobile's official website that the 34-year-old rider had not been selected because the German outfit were focusing on overall victory in the Tour rather than stage wins. Zabel has raced for the German team since turning professional in 1993.

¤ Italian cyclist Alessio Galletti died on Wednesday from a cardiac arrest, an initial autopsy has shown. Galletti, 37, died during a climb near the end of a 162-km race in the Spanish region of Asturias. A spokesman said the results of the autopsy were provisional. More tests must be carried out and a final analysis is likely in about three months.
