The board of the UN nuclear watchdog IAEA unanimously agreed to reappoint Mohamed ElBaradei as the agency's head yesterday, formally ending Washington's attempt to oust the 62-year-old Egyptian, the agency said.
Mr ElBaradei's reappointment was unanimously approved by the 35 nations on the board of governors of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), including the United States, an IAEA spokeswoman said.
Mr ElBaradei has headed the IAEA since 1997. During this time he has overseen the United Nations' hunt for covert nuclear weapons programmes in Iraq, Iran, Libya and North Korea.
