The sum of Lm9,127.89 was recently presented to a number of philanthropic organisations during Mass led by Bishop Nikol Cauchi at the Good Shepherd chapel in Victoria.

The money was collected in a charity campaign held during the feast of Christ the King last year.

Addressing those present, Bishop Cauchi said innovation is needed where charity is concerned so that the most urgent needs are identified. We should try to build the structures needed to ensure that the charity would reach those who need it in the shortest time possible, he said.

Referring to the parable of the Good Samaritan, he appealed for more volunteers to help the elderly and people with special needs, and thanked those who contributed and did community service with such people.

The beneficiaries were: Lm1,000 each to Lourdes Home, Dar Arka and the Respite Centre; Lm500 to Dar Guzeppa Debono, Dar San Guzepp, Ghaqda ghall-Persuni b'Dizabiltà, Oasi Foundation, Dar tal-Kleru and Fondazzjoni Tobit; Lm400 to the Little Flower Play School; Id-Dar tal-Providenza, the Cana Movement and the Ghaqda Persuni Nieqsa mis-Smieh; Lm300 to the St Therese and St Dominic homes for the elderly in Victoria; Lm200 to the Social Action Movement; Ghaqda Persuni Nieqsa mid-Dawl and Ghaqda Refugjati Malta, and Lm1,230 was distributed to various families in need.
