The South Malta Local Plan
Fgura and Ghaxaq
What are the proposals for Fgura?
The main problem here is traffic so the plan provides for better traffic management and a new route to decrease through traffic. Other policies identify opportunities for the increase in recreational areas and the improvement of the residential environment in general.
They also cover traffic calming (Ref. SMFG 01); the removal of a scrapyard at Triq id-Dejma (SMFG 02); the rezoning of a site at Triq Mater Boni Consigli (SMFG 03); and the improvement and expansion of sports facilities (SMFG 04).
What are the proposals for Ghaxaq?
One of the traditional Maltese villages, Ghaxaq has been separated by a by-pass which divides this village. The plan provides for the improvement of recreational and community facilities and the containment of industrial activity outside development zone.
It provides for sports and community facilities (SMGH 01); the rezoning of the green area at Triq il-Barbazzal (SMGH 02); recreational sites at Ta' Haxum and Has-Saptan (SMGH 03); proposed traffic lights on the Ghaxaq by-pass (SMGH 04); rezoning of area at Tal-Qattus (SMGH 05); land zoned for the development of educational facilities (SMGH 06); and the expansion of Has-Saptan fuel storage facility (SMGH 07).
