The Malta Institute of Management believes that better use could be made of existing industrial parks instead of creating new ones unless absolutely necessary.

The existing parks should be well looked after and not be allowed to end up in a miserable condition after a few months of being opened, MIM said.

The institute expressed its willingness to support Parliamentary Secretary Edwin Vassallo in his continued efforts towards a simplification of laws and regulations to reduce bureaucracy, compliance costs and government induced costs and to instil business sustainability with due regard to fair competition.

The MIM congratulated Mr Vassallo for allowing preliminary discussions to take place on the impact of a business plan for small enterprises which the Parliamentary Secretariat for Small Business and Self Employed will publish shortly.

The institute said it agreed with the consultation document outlining the principles of a strategy enabling the private sector to prosper in a stable and business-friendly economic environment with a view to create new employment opportunities.

It praised the emphasis being given to environment issues with regard to industrial parks and projects.
