The Malta Labour Party veterans have urged party delegates to vote "wisely" on the European Constitution and to refrain from voting "emotionally" during the next general conference when the party is meant to take an official stand on the issue.
In a motion approved during a meeting yesterday, the MLP veterans said the party should "pull one rope" to start focusing on the real problems people were facing.
The veterans supported the decision of the MLP executive to recommend that the party's parliamentary group votes in favour of the EU Constitution with reservations.
The motion said the veterans acknowledged that the principles embedded in the Maltese Constitution, such as neutrality, were still relevant today and could be effectively safeguarded by the political will of the government, irrespective of whether the EU Constitution is ratified or not.
