I refer to Godwin Agius's letter (May 23) and would like to ask him to tell us what good he has done for his country, besides sniggering at my CV, while revealing to us his dark secrets of envy, jealousy and contempt.

I stand by all that I have written in my letter of April 13 and I repeat that "...the Neolithic temples, unique as they are, unfortunately resemble piles of stones put together by a group of superstitious fat farmers..."

It should have continued... "compared to the fame and glory of Stonehenge in England, the pyramids of Egypt, the Parthenon of Greece and the Maya and Aztec temples of Mesoamerica".

To clarify the meaning, I add that this is the fault of past governments who failed to advertise them properly. Proof of this is the fact that in this country, where everybody knows everybody else, the police have failed to find out who the vandals who desecrated the temples are.

Besides, few tourists who visit Malta are so-called "culture tourists", when compared to Florence, Venice, Rome, Paris, Cairo, Athens, Mexico City and Sicily even.

Most tourists who visit Malta are what are termed bucket and spade tourists, lager louts, English language students, one-day cruise liner passengers and pensioners.

The temples look like a pile of stones put together by a group of superstitious people because, to most uncultured persons, the past was full of superstitions and people who were fat - because most of the statues found within the temples were of fat women and who were gatherers because the temple builders basically lived off farming the land.

Regarding Mr Agius's suggestion that I run for Parliament, let me say that I have been wise enough not to let myself be tempted to sink into the quagmire of political dishonesty and deceit.

As for extending my stay here, despite his unchristian feelings towards me, a total stranger, let me inform him that as a law-abiding citizen of Malta I hold freedom of movement and I have the right to reside here as long as I want and to leave and to return when I want at my own pleasure.
