A German national was rescued after his boat capsized in St Paul's Bay last Sunday.

An alert Armed Forces of Malta patrol boat crew sighted a capsized sailing boat in the middle of the bay during a routine inshore patrol.

The patrol boat P-24 crew noticed the man in the water, clinging onto his boat. The exhausted German who is resident here was taken on board and his boat towed ashore.

Staff Sergeant Raymond Mizzi was in charge of the 2nd Regiment Maritime Squadron's Swift class patrol boat.

An AFM spokesman said that the Maritime Squadron is responsible for the surveillance and provides a Search and Rescue service.

"Pleasure boat seamen and fisherman are strongly urged to equip themselves and their craft well before taking short or long trips at sea, in order to be prepared for such mishaps," the spokesman said.
