Small dogs are dangerous too

I refer to the article on the muzzling of dangerous dogs (May 25).

As the owner of a large, "dangerous" dog, I would like to complain about the large number of small "innocent" dogs which are allowed to roam freely off the leash, especially in the Sliema area. My Rottweiler has already been bitten three times by small dogs that were unleashed and I have also been bitten once while trying to stop my dog from being bitten a fourth time.

My dog never retaliated to any of these attacks, as she is trained to respond to my commands. If she ever does retaliate, I am sure that she would be labelled a vicious killer simply because of her breed.

Any dog off the leash is a "dangerous" dog. If more owners took responsibility for their animals and retained them on a leash, perhaps we will have fewer unfortunate incidents like the one that happened to Ms Grech and her pet.
