British and Irish Lions number eight Lawrence Dallaglio will miss the rest of the tour of New Zealand after fracturing and dislocating his right ankle in the opening victory over Bay of Plenty yesterday.

Dallaglio, a World Cup winner with England in 2003, was carried off on a stretcher 20 minutes into the match, which the Lions won 34-20.

He will be replaced by Ireland's Simon Easterby.

Dallaglio, 32, retired from international rugby last year but made himself available for the Lions tour.
