A group of 28 Maltese associations and movements have joined the worldwide initiative StoPoverty! which is calling on governments to stand by their commitments in favour of the world's poor and reach the UN's Millennium Development Goals by 2015.
Movements around the world, including Malta, will be organising a series of events on July 1 to demonstrate that the world is saying "no" to poverty.
The public are invited to wear a white band on that day and join in the activities.
Orders at 50 cents per band may be made by writing to info@jrsmalta.org providing name, surname, e-mail address and telephone number.
A spokesman for the Maltese organisations said that StoPoverty! is part of the global call to action against poverty.
The organisations promise to work during this year to force world leaders to tackle the causes of poverty and to meet and exceed their own promises on the UN's millennium development goals.
