Three young Maltese singers won top awards in the finals of a festival held in Romania over the past days.
They are Brenton Azzopardi and his sister Nicole, of Mosta, and Danica Muscat, of Ghaxaq.
The festival, known as Ti Amo and held between May 23 and last Wednesday, is an international song contest held yearly for children from around the world. This year 41 participants from France, Italy, Russia, Portugal, Bulgaria, Serbia, the FYR Macedonia, Ukraine, Romania, Moldova, China (Taiwan), Lebanon, Israel and Malta took part. Nicole Azzopardi, eight, placed second in category A with her song Sono Troppo Birichina. Danica Muscat came first in category B with her song Piccolini.
Both songs were written by Joe Julian Farrugia and composed by Sammy Galea.
Brenton Azzopardi, who has been studying voice for the past seven years, was awarded the best prize in all the three categories. He interpreted the song Chiedo Aiuto, written by Chris Azzopardi and composed by Mro Galea. This was the first time a singer from Malta received this honour.
He will represent Malta next year at the Ti Amo Festival as guest of honour.
