Representatives of Wirt Ghawdex met the chairman and chief executive officer of Heritage Malta to discuss ways of cooperating in the preservation of Gozo's cultural heritage and increasing the public's awareness of the island's patrimony.
Heritage Malta was briefed about the ongoing restoration projects of the society such as on the Mgarr ix-Xini Tower and the only surviving Dghajsa tal-Latini on the islands, as well as its plans for other projects such as the restoration of the Santa Cecilia chapel.
Wirt Ghawdex also offered its services in opening sites falling under the responsibility of Heritage Malta in Gozo and not normally accessible to the public. Mario Tabone, chairman of Heritage Malta, emphasised the importance of NGOs in the preservation of patrimony and expressed the agency's readiness to cooperate on such matters.
As a first gesture of such cooperation, Wirt Ghawdex presented Heritage Malta with a number of informative leaflets, targeting primary school students and depicting insects found in the natural habitat, for free distribution from the Museum of Natural History in the Citadel.
Some old cottage furniture will also be donated in the near future by the society to be displayed in the Ta' Kola Windmill at Xaghra.
