Thirty-seven illegal immigrants entered Hay Wharf at about 2.30 p.m. yesterday on a vessel escorted by an Armed Forces of Malta patrol boat.

Twenty-one of the immigrants, all men, said they were from Sudan and seven claimed to come from Ethiopia, four from Iraq, two each from Egypt and Palestine and one from the Ivory Coast.

This brings to 92 the number of migrants who landed in Malta in the space of two days. A total of 56 were brought ashore by the AFM on Monday night after being rescued in two separate groups out at sea.
